The D-U-N-S Number is a unique 9-digit number assigned and maintained by Dun & Bradstreet (D & B). It’s widely used as a business identifier in the U.S. It identifies entities on a location-specific basis.

The D-U-N-S Number is necessary if you are enrolling in the Apple Developer Program as a company/organization. Apple uses it to check the identity and legal status of your business entity as a part of the verification process. In addition to having the D-U-N-S Number, your business must also be recognized as a legal entity (such as a corporation, partnership, limited partnership, or limited liability company). You can learn more about the requirements and the Apple Developer Program enrollment process here.

Note: You have to enroll in the Apple Developer Program as a company/organization. Only then can you upload the app built on Montu to your account on the App Store.

Points to remember:

  • A D-U-N-S Number is a must for companies and educational institutions. It is optional for government organizations.

  • Apple Developers can get a free of charge assignment of D-U-N-S Number within 5 business days.

  • A D-U-N-S number stays with your business forever. You needn’t renew it. But you have to update information on a yearly basis.

Requesting a D-U-N-S Number

There are chances that D&B has already assigned your organization a free D-U-N-S number. The Apple Developer Program provides you with a free look-up tool to see if you have the number.

Note: You’ll have to create your Apple ID and password before you can check if you have a D-U-N-S Number.

Fill in all the details in the form and press the “Continue” button.

If your company is not listed, you’ll have the option to submit your information to Dun & Bradstreet through the Apple account asking for a free D-U-N-S Number.
