The D-U-N-S Number is a unique 9-digit number assigned and maintained by Dun & Bradstreet (D & B). It’s widely used as a business identifier in the U.S. It identifies entities on a location-specific basis.
The D-U-N-S Number is necessary if you are enrolling in the Apple Developer Program as a company/organization. Apple uses it to check the identity and legal status of your business entity as a part of the verification process. In addition to having the D-U-N-S Number, your business must also be recognized as a legal entity (such as a corporation, partnership, limited partnership, or limited liability company). You can learn more about the requirements and the Apple Developer Program enrollment process here.
Note: You have to enroll in the Apple Developer Program as a company/organization. Only then can you upload the app built on Montu to your account on the App Store.
Points to remember:
-
A D-U-N-S Number is a must for companies and educational institutions. It is optional for government organizations.
-
Apple Developers can get a free of charge assignment of D-U-N-S Number within 5 business days.
